Elexus Freeman- Filmore
For over 18 years Elexus Freeman- Filmore was a classically trained dancer and performer dedicating her time to perfecting her skills. She started her career at Philadanco and moved on to Philadelphia Dance Theater, where she decided to take her dancing more seriously. Being with PDT granted her amazing opportunities such as summer programs with Alvin Ailey, Vineland Regional Dance Co. and The Rock School of Dance. She was even involved with RegionalDance America, which took the performance company as far as Montreal, Canada.
Once she graduated from high school and looking forward to college, Elexus joined Hampton University’s band dance team where she was able to perform during football and basketball season. She danced all 4 years at HU never missing a game or chance to perform. Post graduation Elexus joined the AFL Soulmates here in Philadelphia, where she was challenged with pom style dancing, and leading the little soulmates through their performances.Today, Elexus teaches with Chocolate Ballerina Company, where she is on staff as the lead Ballet/Pointe instructor and offers in home private lessons! She is also on the board of Chocolate Ballerina Company as the Secretary. Elexus also assists with the complete production of Balance Dance Center’s Summer Series and Philadelphia Youth Dance Fest, a yearly Spring festival that brings together companies from all across the US.
Elexus is a role model not only to her dance students, but to her teenage younger sisters who are both heavily involved in dance and theater. Dance is a huge part of her life and always will be. Reaching out to young dancers, helping them unlock their potential, providing knowledge and education to dancers and families, and being a mentor are just a few reasons why Elexus will forever be connected to dance and the arts.
